Flutter AI skills
Flutter AI agent skills
A skill is the method an agent follows for a specific task. Flutter Agent Kit ships 19, each distilled from shipping a real app, so the agent builds a feature the way you would.
What is a Flutter AI skill?
An AI agent skill is a markdown file that describes how to perform one task: the steps, the packages to add, the conventions to follow and what done looks like. The agent loads the skill when a task calls for it, follows it, then drops it.
The format is spreading through the ecosystem. Flutter ships official agent skills for its own toolchain, and coding agents such as opencode support a skills directory. The shared idea is on-demand loading: a skill costs context only when it is used.
That matters because an always-loaded file has a budget. Skills sidestep it. A project can ship nineteen of them and the agent still reads only the one a task needs, so context stays small and the agent stays fast.
Skills vs rules vs prompts
The three get mixed up, and the difference decides whether an agent stays consistent. Rules are always loaded, skills are loaded on demand, and a prompt is what you type for one specific job.
- AGENTS.md (always loaded): The constitution. Which state management, which routing, which folder layout, and which patterns are banned.
- Skills (on demand): The playbooks. How to add a RevenueCat paywall or wire push notifications, step by step, with the kit's own conventions.
- Prompt (one-off): The task for right now. Add a settings screen with a dark mode toggle.
Together they cover the whole context: stable invariants, reusable methods and the current task. A skill without rules drifts on architecture, because the method assumes decisions the agent never got. Rules without skills leave the agent inventing the steps.
The 19 skills the kit ships
Each skill is grounded in the kit's own template and distilled from shipping BitPong, a Flutter app with 1000+ active users on the App Store. They cover the features nearly every app needs: navigation and storage, identity, monetization, engagement, observability, the interface and platform access.
They are grouped by area below and each one links to its full page, where you can see what the skill covers and how the kit implements it. That page is the place to start when you are about to add the feature.

How to install and extend skills
The scaffold writes the skills into the project. From there the agent reads the one a task needs, without any extra configuration in Cursor, Claude Code, opencode or GitHub Copilot: skills are markdown, read the same way everywhere.
Adding your own is a copy and a rewrite. Take a skill that resembles the feature you want, keep the shape (what it covers, the steps, the acceptance criteria) and replace the content. Keeping the shape is what lets the agent follow it reliably, whether the skill came from the kit or from you.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a Flutter AI skill and a rules file?
A rules file such as AGENTS.md is always loaded and states the project's invariants: state management, routing, folders and banned patterns. A skill is loaded on demand and states the method for one task, such as adding a paywall. They work together: the rules keep the skill's output on your architecture.
How many skills does Flutter Agent Kit ship?
Nineteen, covering routing, local database, Firestore, Firebase Auth, RevenueCat, AdMob, in-app review, push notifications, AI chat, i18n, Sentry, Firebase Analytics, dialogs, onboarding, settings, Google Maps, camera, web and UI design.
Do the skills work with Cursor, Claude Code and GitHub Copilot?
Yes. Skills are plain markdown, so any agent that reads project files can follow them. The kit's AGENTS.md layer is agent-agnostic and works in Cursor, Claude Code, opencode, GitHub Copilot, Gemini and the others.
Can I write my own skills?
Yes. Copy a kit skill that resembles your feature and rewrite the steps, keeping the same shape. The kit ships the skills as editable files, so they are a starting point rather than a locked format.
