Onboarding for Flutter

A first-launch onboarding flow

A single persisted flag, a PageView intro, and a GoRouter redirect that shows onboarding until the user has completed it.

What this feature covers

  • Intro pager: A PageView with title, description and icon per page.
  • Progress indicator: smooth_page_indicator showing the current page.
  • Controls: Skip, next and get started.
  • Gate: A redirect that keeps the user in onboarding until the flag is set.

How Flutter Agent Kit implements it

The whole feature is a single bool flag, has_shown_onboarding, persisted in SharedPreferences through an OnboardingNotifier. There is no Equatable state class and no I/O service, because the state is one boolean. A GoRouter redirect reads the flag and routes the user to OnboardingScreen until it is true.

Only one dependency is added, smooth_page_indicator, and page icons use Material IconData rather than an extra icon package. Onboarding runs on every platform the app targets.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the onboarding state stored?

In SharedPreferences, as a single boolean flag read through a Riverpod v3 OnboardingNotifier. SharedPreferences is already a kit core dependency, so onboarding adds no storage package of its own.

How does onboarding block the home screen?

A GoRouter redirect reads the persisted flag and sends the user to the onboarding screen until it is set, the same gating mechanism the kit uses for authentication, so the two gates compose cleanly.
